Craft Koozies for Craft Beer →
The Mother-of-all-Crafty-Hour blazed her way through Denver this past week, with the Father-of-all-Crafty-Drinks, and boy did we have ourselves a blast!
What I mean is that my parents came to visit and we did a craft. That’s what I mean.
What You’ll Need for Craft, Craft Beer Koozies:
Paper Cup/Coffee Cup
Elmer’s Carpenter’s Wood Glue
Water
Big Bowl
Mod Podge
NewsPaper
Fabric
Scissors
Paint Brush
A patient mother
What You’ll Need for Craft Beer:
A liquor store
And/Or Visiting Parents Who Will Pay/Take You on Fun Brewery Tours and Give You an Excuse to Buy Lots of Yummy Beer
Disclaimers!
The wood glue will keep your koozie waterproof so take your skepticism and…put it down somewhere else.
You don’t have to use cute girlie fabric. You could put anything you wanted on there. Like a picture, or a drawing, or a picture of a drawing. You get the idea.
Craft time:
1.) Gather all your materials and take a picture. Realize that you'll only use half of these materials.
2.) Cut down your paper cup so that it fits loosely around your beer bottle. Make sure to leave some space because the "koozie" will shrink a bit while drying.
3.) Oh right. Then tape the cup so it keeps its shape. Hindsight: Might be easier to just get a cup that fits? Meh.
4.) Put your wood glue in a mixing bowl with water. To make the paper mache goop stuff.
5.) Tear your newspaper into long pieces. Then get them all up in that goopy stuff.
6.) Wrap the goopy strips of newspaper both around and inside the cup. Just all over.
7.) Now let it dry! This is where you’d go do something else for the day, like going for a hike and drink yummy beer. Or you could just put it into the microwave to get it to dry faster. Questionable choice. So was trying to blow dry it. No pics necessary.
Part II – Getting’ Funky with Fabric.
AKA Putting on the Fancy Layer
1.) Now that your koozie is dry, using whatever means necessary, you can move onto the "make it pretty" (never happens) stage. So get your fabric or cool pic from the web or pic of you and your friends whatever and put it in the goop.
2.) Now wrap your fabric or whatever you're using around your koozie! Don't forget the bottom and inside too! You can use different color fabric on those parts to really just keep everyone on their toes. Cuz they care.
3.) Now let it dry AGAIN. So...drink more beer! When will this end!
Part III – Sweet Jesus, more goopy stuff.
AKA Sealing it all up with Mod Podge
1.) Glop Mod Podge shtuff all over your koozie.
2.) Let it dry AGAIN UGH IS THIS OVER.
3.) Well that was fast jk no it wasn't. But hey, we're done!!
Part IV – The thing that makes this possible and necessary to use
AKA Drinky Drinky Time!
So, like I said, for this part you either need a liquor store OR cool parents to go brewery tasting with. But because I love all 4 of my readers, and probably 90% of you don’t live in Colorado so I’ll impart some SWEET Colorado Beer knowledge on you. Well, not really. But here are some of my favorite Colorado Beers.
Odell Brewery in Fort Collins:
90 Shilling
Odell Red Ale (favorite Red at the moment)
Isolation Ale (favorite seasonal)
Double Samarai IPA – It’s only the Tap room but it is WORTH IT.
Haha, that was dumb. Sorry! Anywho, enjoy!
Well I have a rule that once I phone it in that hard, it’s time to wrap it up. I hope you enjoyed this week’s Crafty Hour and that it brings you hours of friendship happiness.
